Province Wide OHV Ban (Lifted May 13th)

Post by giantjoe »

Bad news everyone. The wildfire situation is critical and the Gov't of Alberta has announced a province wide ban on OHV's for recreational use.

Stay tuned.

Here is a post from the NASTE club facebook page.
780 427-2137 this is the number to Minister Oneil Carlier responsable for the OHV ban. He is not an ATV user infact some say he is anti ATV.
There is a heavy snowfall warning for the mountain parks and the foothills at the moment. Feel free to call and ask why when standing in 6" of snow we need a province wide fire ban / ATV ban over the long weekend!
Since the fire at Fort McMurray is no longer a threat to the city and with the rain/snow we have had this week, the ban should be lifted.

I phoned AEP and raised a complaint. :p
So far they have no plans to lift the ban on ohv's until after may-long. Despite the reduced fire risk.

Hope I'm not the only one.

The infamous may long weekend, what a milestone. Now I remember why I have trust issues with all government political parties and politicians.

The Calgary ATV Association made a post on face book saying they talked to the AOHVA and the bans were being reassessed this afternoon.

Ban lifted for the Calgary forest area. Have a good weekend everyone. Be smart about it though, the fire ban is still in effect.

Yeah, I agree. The OHV ban is still in effect for more northern areas and ones other than Calgary Forest area. Fire ban I believe is still province wide.

This is the wording from the Alberta Fire Ban website

Although the province-wide fire ban and OHV restriction was lifted, a Fire Advisory remains in effect for the Calgary Forest Area.
No fire permits will be issued.
Safe campfires are allowed.
Incendiary targets remain banned province-wide.
