Final SSRP Advice to Government

Post by Hendrix13 »

"This document describes the South Saskatchewan RAC’s advice to the Government of Alberta, as a
response to the Terms of Reference for Developing the South Saskatchewan Region"

This would be the policy that affects all of the eastern slopes.

This is completion of Step 4 in the governments plan.

"...
Step 1 - Develop a regional profile (provides an overview of key economic, environmental and social factors in the region).
Step 2 - Develop a terms of reference (sets out the plan development process and gives guidance to the Regional Advisory Council on specific considerations).
Step 3 - Phase 1 consultations (information and input).
Step 4 - Regional Advisory Council (RAC) provides its advice to government.
Step 5 - Phase 2 consultations (feedback on RAC’s advice).
.."

The next step (Step 5) is to get feedback from YOU!!

This is an excerpt from the Herald:

"A draft blueprint for bringing orderly development to southern Alberta calls for better rural and urban planning, and water conservation measures, but also bike paths constructed alongside highways, and a ban on raucous activities such as mud-bogging on Crown lands.

And according to a document obtained by the Herald, more than 11 per cent of southern Alberta's 83,764 square kilometres could receive the new classification of "conservation management areas."

The designation would be given to nine separate parcels of environmentally sensitive public lands, including the Castle-Waterton area and Porcupine-Pekisko rangelands. Motorized access would be discouraged, but industrial activities could still continue with higher-than-normal environmental standards in place.

Those are some of the highlights of the South Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council's advice to the province as it develops a land plan for the region."

"But there are some specifics in the report, including calls for more unserviced camping in the Eastern Slopes and for bike lanes along highways. It also states that some unmanaged recreational activities shouldn't be allowed on public lands, including rallies and races -unless designated in some areas"

The Environmentalists are getting the word out:

"..It's the public's job to send a clear message to the government..."
