porky's trail inventory mapping

The Lethbridge Motorcycle Club working with the National Trails Coalition (NTC) would like to announce the completion of Trail Inventory and Mapping of single track trails in the Beaver Creek region of the Bow Crow Forest.

The Lethbridge Motorcycle Club was established in 1952 and incorporated as a non-profit society in 1962. The club started strictly as a road club and held road events. The focus turned in 1968 to dirt type riding and events. Today the Lethbridge Motorcycle Club is a volunteer-based organization that offers something for every motorcycle enthusiast from street to dirt.

The Lethbridge Motorcycle Club has been hosting Cross Country and Harescramble events in the Bow Crow Forest for over 30 years. Each event is managed with the greatest respect possible for the environment. The proper permits are garnered and club members who each have more than 15 years experience with respect to trail riding, ribbon the trails. When the events are over, a sweeping of the trails is done to remove all the ribbons, repair any areas in need, and collect any refuse. The Lethbridge Motorcycle Club and its members have realized from the first race event ever held, if respect is not shown for the areas we frequent for race events or for recreational riding, the land and trails would deteriorate to a point that riding would not be possible or allowed. The Lethbridge Motorcycle Club are dedicated stewards of the area they frequent and take pride of ownership towards the area.

Every effort is being made to keep single track trails open for public use, not only for the motorcycle enthusiast, but also for hikers, hunters, horseback riders, and mountain bikers. The Lethbridge motorcycle Club used funding from the National Trails Coalition and the Alberta Off Highway Vehicle Association to complete the mapping project.

Working with the National Trails Coalition the Lethbridge Motorcycle Club has taken a positive step towards maintaining and preserving single track trails in the Beaver creek region of the Bow Crow Forest. The maps and inventory have been released to the SRD for future use and publication.
