BC TRAIL NETWORK

Post by Dragon997 »

Pulled this info of The BC DUAL SPORT page.

Those of you in the know probably have seen this proposal before. It seems BC is going through the same process as Alberta is in establishing a trail network.
Alberta really only had to implement a plan for the eastern slopes. BC will have to put forth a plan for the entire province. A large task I am sure.

This is important for those of us who ride in BC.

What struck me in the proposal is that they want to DOUBLE tourism in BC this year, by including OHV use on the trails. The BC government seems to understand that OHV use is an industry within itself.

Am I correct in this assumption?

Wow :applause: what a different tone coming from the B.C. government. This government seems to get "IT". It looks like they're atleast trying to address some key issues where our government is happy just to shut everything down.

About 8 years into this process with Gov and I am not much further ahead than I was 8 years ago. The only win was to get SRD to listen to NOHVCC. We had plans from other areas(including BC) on the table a number of times, but our Gov is hard of hearing. We go to meetings and bring examples of plans and as soon as we are out the door Gov does something that obviously did not even factor in what other jurisdictions have had work. Welcome to the land of plenty.

This would be the Alberta equivalent. At present there is not new update, they are awaiting to elect a new chair.

Yes the Rec Corridors could do what BC is doing if only there is the political will in Alberta to do so. The Rec Corridors committee is to start up again in the new year and hopefully move the proposals foreword. The chairman for the committee is jeff Johnson. That is why he is going around the province looking at recreational trails. I have been invited back to sit on this committee again, and look foreword to working with Jeff Johnson.
