Albertans encouraged to restrict activities in the Southern Rockies area

Edmonton... Due to recent heavy rains in the Southern Rockies area, Alberta Sustainable Resource Development recommends Albertans restrict their travel and activities in the forest reserve south of the Red Deer River near Sundre to the north boundary of Waterton National Park until conditions improve.

Heavy rainfall and resulting high water have impacted roads, bridges and other infrastructure that may make travel unsafe.

The government is also asking off-highway vehicle users and random campers not use the forest reserve area until conditions improve for safety reasons and to minimize impacts on soil, vegetation, and already saturated watercourses.

Flood update for southern provincial parks and recreation areas

Edmonton… Due to recent heavy rains in southern Alberta some provincial parks and recreation areas, most notably Fish Creek Provincial Park, are closed and will be assessed for damage to determine next steps. For public safety reasons, Albertans are asked to respect the trail and park closures.

At Fish Creek Provincial Park water is receding but many areas have sustained damage and are closed:

* Bow Bottom Trail is closed to vehicles and foot traffic.
* Hull’s Wood picnic area, Bebo Grove day use area and Votier Flats day use area are closed.
* Most of the pathways are still under water and many have flood damage. Extreme caution must be used on all pathways in the park and in all locations close to Fish Creek or the Bow River.
* Fish Creek boat launch on Bow Bottom Trail is closed.
* There is limited access to many parts of the park and several parking areas remain closed.
* A survey of damage to trails and other park facilities is ongoing.

Other park closures include:

Beauvais Lake Provincial Park: Some road sections of Beauvais Lake Provincial Park are closed, the campground is open.

Chain Lakes Provincial Park: Closed.

Oldman Dam Provincial Recreation Area: Cottonwood campground, Boulder Run day use area and Three Rivers group use area are closed. Oldman Dam Windy Point, Island View, North Fork and Chinook RV camp are open.

Oldman River Provincial Recreation Area (Highway 2, Fort Macleod): Closed.

St. Mary River Provincial Recreation Area: Closed upper area only, due to washed out roads from runoff.

Willow Creek Provincial Park: Closed and damage is being assessed.

Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park: The Milk River is very high and the park is under a Flood Watch. Public tours in the Archaeological Preserve are cancelled until further notice. The campground is muddy but remains open.

Wyndham-Carseland Provincial Park: Closed and damage is being assessed. The campground may be partially re-opened today.

All other provincial parks and recreation areas in the region are open.

The first one was from SRD on June 8 and the second one is from CD on June 10. They aren't really related since it comes from different departments.

CD looks after Provincial Parks
SRD looks after Forest Land Use Zones like McLean Creek and Waiparous.

SRD has not revoked their request for people to stay out of the FLUZ areas as far as I can tell.
