Feedback on Draft of SSRP

Post by RJHenry »

All:

In January 2014, RMDRA provided Feedback document to the Land Use Secretariat requesting specific clarity and adjustments to the Draft South Saskatchewan Regional Plan.

In the same way as our previous Position Paper Submission (found here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9479) this feedback is considered separately from the October 17 Meeting, Public Input, Stakeholder Input, and letter writing campaign of which RMDRA members also did a fantastic job - we continue to have a visible and positive profile in the SSRP process!

This document identifies eight specific areas of need necessary for successful multi-use implementation:
1. clear regulatory intent regarding recreational access and use
2. clarity regarding the transition from existing access to a managed trail system
3. clarity regarding crossings of water bodies and shores
4. clarity of intent and definition of ‘Linear Disturbance’
5. a transparent and efficient conflict resolution process
6. an effective and efficient Planning Subcommittee structure and process
7. legislative clarity authorizing self-sustaining funding for OHV users
8. a fresh start for the Ghost PLUZ trail system
The paper was built by a large team of members who provided input, debated positions and language, and tried to capture the key perspectives of our members and the larger community of Off Road Motorcyclists.

This paper has a more direct language and fairly specific requests regarding the implementation of Management Planning - it may be viewed as agressive by some, but it clearly spells out what we believe will make a viable future for ORM and OHV use in Southern Alberta!

This RMDRA Feedback Document is not the final word on ORM Land Use, and if you think of things that could be added to improve a future conversation or submission, please send me an e-mail with your thoughts at rjh@rockymountaindirtriders.com.

Enjoy the read!
