Bike Carrier - Princess Auto - thoughts ?

Post by pancake »

I've seen a few guys out there with theses trailer hitch bike carriers from Princess Auto. Just wondering if they hold up or a too cheap. Do they need mods, are you happy with them , any thoughts/ experiences would be helpful.
Thanks,

Brad

I took my KLR 650 3000 kms through the state of Oregon on the back of the motorhome with mine. They have a bit of play so I usually put extra straps to the vehicle for long hauls. Decent cheap hauler.

PS: you can borrow mine if you want to try one..

I used one last year. It's not bad but because it breaks down into so many smaller pieces for the shipping to the store there are lots of joints everywhere. It flexed more than I wanted so I welded the joints solid and added a brace or two....and tail lights.

Thanks guys, saves me from finding a trailer plus I can put my Mtn bike on it as well.
Might attach something to the ends and hook it to the bumper to stabilize it a little better.

Oversea's or other country versions of our Toyota models, but I think you knew that...

I have a P.A one. Doesn't get used much since I have a little trailer. I've only tried it on my 325+ lb XR650R and it works pretty good. I don't know if I would go past that weight allowance though (I wouldn't trust with KLR like above). With a few welds it could be a lot better. Will try with my dirt bike this year.

I used one for the trip to Koocanusa this last weekend and it seemed to work just fine. I did use 4 tie downs plus an extra to the roof rack of my mini van for additional stability.

late to the party but i would order this one:

Well built, i used red locktite for putting it together. Bike does not move. Light and inexpensive even with shipping. You can usually find it on ebay for cheaper...

It is indeed $75 right now. I guess I'd better go shopping!

+1 for the Prohoist.

I tried the Princess Auto carrier for a while and it did the job but I was never that confident of its ability. The ProHoist is a much better product for the reasons Spinalguy mentioned.
