What size screws do you need to do a set of Dirt Sharks?

5/8" ?

Yup, Maverick screws work the best.

I'll be on Trelleborg tires again. Just thinking out loud. I saw the Sharks with the screws last year.

Hey Dirtyboy, a really slick option might be to have Rooster install his studs in a Dirt shark. That would make a really slick shoulder season tire!

W.E.R use to be or still does distribute Trelleborgs

we hand studded a dirt shark last year with my studding equipment ( I have been lending this to Rooster to build the tires) and i do not recommend the dirt shark, terrible traction. the rubber freezes badly. the cheapest alternative for shoulder season is the Kenda or Cheng Shin that Rooster sells, those tires work really well in mixed terrain especially if you are riding black rock. just ask to have the studs pushed far in. you will have less traction in deeper snow but then the tire will not skate on the rocks so much. i am sure those WER supplied studs are very expensive. i bet they are around 30 cents per stud. it would be cool though to see how they work, i have never tryed a screw in style like this before, maybe they stay in the tire really good. the truck studs we shoot in are far cheaper and work fine for the shoulder season. i have looked into actual tool injected rally studs (just like the Trelleborg's) but by the time i have paid for studs, glue and tire, the trelly's are $20 more and then it saves the 2 hours of building time per tire, not to mention the $3000 in studding equipment needed to build.

So, I am looking into building a set of bush riding tires for the winter.

It sounds like BigR is having good luck with his screw style studs mounted in a set of dirt sharks.

I have some questions:

Are you using 5/8 screws? Do you also run a liner? That is to say, do the screw poke through the tire into the tube?

How about the front? What size are you running?

Also, has anyone put screws in a M12 rear or a Stock KTM Bridgestone front?

If you are interested in the BestGrip studs (as mentioned above), lemme know. I have been bringing them in from Italy, for about half the price of what WER is charging (WER charges $119 US for 100 studs). A couple of guys on this site have already studded up their tires with these. I think they are gonna work well. I do still have some if you wanna take a look at them.

We have been using the 5/8 screws front and back, no liner just screw one in each knob.

Have had the best luck with Dirtsharks, you have to really abuse them to loose a screw.
Haven't tried M12s but the stock Bidgestones didn't hold the screws in worth a darn.
