Repacking silencers?

Does anyone have advice on removing the ?rivets? from the silencer to open it so i can clean and repack it?
Do you just drill it out?
And re rivet it?
Do any of you guys want to do it for a few wobllies? :D

Yes exactly. Depends on the can. Some have bolts on one end and others require drilling the rivets out and re-riveting. You have to get one side off to do the job.

Once you get it apart, remove the old packing.
Use a wire brush to clean the perforated pipe. (I think BigD uses a blow torch to burn it off :smirk: but I like the wire brush)
Clean the rest of the can.
Wrap the pipe with new packing material. I like the Silent Sport stuff as it works good and is easier to use.
Put it back together using some silicone to seal the end cap.
Re-rivet or bolt it up.

Be prepared for a really messy 30 minute job depending on how much 2 stroke oil is stuck in the muffler. Heck it's a mess on a four stroke with all the black carbon in it.

As for doing it, I'd be happy to supply the refreshments if someone would do my pipe. It's a messy job.

Taking the easy way out? How much do they charge to repack a silencer? I might do that next time too :D

Depends....on how dirty it is.
Either 1/2 hour or 1 hour labor plus packing material.
