Tires

Post by supergreen »

Hey, what does everyone run for tires? I do NOT like my Dunlop AT81's and I am looking at the KENDA IBEX K774's for front and back but I am leery about the odd tread pattern of the front tire, which leads me to the second part. Who runs different brands on the front and back? Finally, thoughts on the Metzeler 6 Days?

Here is the KENDA IBEX K774 Front

Tire choices are like belly buttons. Everyone has one and each is different.

I for example like the AT81 at lower pressure (5 - 7 psi rear). I also like the Michelin S12 XC Soft but know a few people who hate them. Many people love the IRC M5B which I hate. Who's to say which choice is right?

My suggestion, try what interests you and most importantly ignore what others tell you.

As usual, Brass is sooooo wrong about tires. M5B is the world's greatest rear tire. I like the Kenda Washougal 2 for the front.

As you can see there are a LOT of opinions on tires out there. My suggestion is to try a few and see what you like, but like Brass said, tire pressures are important. Even Brass is right every now and then... ;-)

Everyone knows that Glenn's opinion doesn't count. Never trust someone with more than 2 bikes, they clearly don't know what they like and can't make up their mind about anything.

Michelin starcross 5 mediums or softs. They work well and are readily available.I also find the mitas greenstripe rear to be fantastic and it wears well. I dislike the M5B as it is a poor sidehilling tire.

Brass is correct. I do like a lot of bikes, but they are all rescues. They are languishing at dealership and made sad eyes at me.

Golden front 90-90/19, half way between standard and fatty. Rear I like the AT81, really like the AT81 gummy but hate how fast they wear. I want to try a 505 cheater this season as well.
