Anyone have recommendations for oil in KTM 2strokes? Specifically the 200xc

Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
my preference is the motul 15W40

my second choice is belray 2 stroke specific gear oil.
I have tried the rotella but feel it changes clutch engagement and breaks down too fast.

Rotella t6 0-40w.
Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
That is a good idea - not JASO rated, but would work great in the gearbox. Any clutch trouble?axel99 wrote:Rotella t6 0-40w.

Type F transmission oil....used in all my bikes. Buttery smooth shifting. Change after 3 rides though.

Not another "Which oil" thread.
Whatever you use, change it often and make sure it is safe to use with a clutch. The 200 doesn't take much and the aluminum clutch plates will foul it up pretty fast. I change my oil every 6 hours (about 2-3 rides) like it was a religious thing and the clutches last forever and stays butter smooth.

The voices are back. Awesome!

I agree with the "not a an oil thread", but Rotella T4 and T6 are JASO rated. Unfortunately the conventional Rotella T has been discontinued.RJHenry wrote:That is a good idea - not JASO rated, but would work great in the gearbox. Any clutch trouble?axel99 wrote:Rotella t6 0-40w.

Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
Rotella t6 meets Jaso spec. I have run it in 2t and 4t with good results iand it’s cheap enough I can change every 3 rides. I buy it in 20l pails and use it in all my gas and Diesel engines. Glover international use to carry a good supply
Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
I agree the 5w40 is JASO but I don't believe the OW40 is. Not sure why.

Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
I can check tonight, maybe I looked my 5-40w T6 and made the assumption 0-40w T6 meets the same specs.
Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
I checked when in the garage last night, and the 0w40 is not JASO rated.

Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
Thanks AJRJ.
Re: Transmission Oil 200xc
The question is... does it matter? I also assumed it was ok based on the 5w40, so I ran one jug of 0w40 through a winter. I didn't have any clutch trouble, which I assumed was where the trouble would show up. What else does JASO do for us?AJRJ wrote:I checked when in the garage last night, and the 0w40 is not JASO rated.
