PW50 Question

Post by Dave P »

Hey Gang,

General question here. Do you think my daughter is to big for a PW50?

She is about 45 inches tall, just under 40lbs.

I think the TTR50 is a bit to heavy for her.

I am also ok with the possibility of having to sell after a year or two with growth spurts.

Anybody with kids have any input?

Just wanting to really start her off on the right path and not overwhelm her with a to big of a bike.

Thanks,

Dave

You're on the right track. Better to get her started with a positive experience, not one where a too big or heavy bike causes her to fall, get frustrated, etc. PW50 is hard to beat, I think it's a better bike than the Suzuki JR50. Buy a used one, sell it for almost what you paid in a year or two, and hopefully she'll want you to buy her a bigger bike at that time!

she is about the same size as my 5yo. He rides the wheels off it and came from an Oset. I will keep him on it until he starts breaking it....

I agree. The PW 50 is the best starter bike out there IMO.

Dobi, you said your kid came off of an Oset. Did you figure out a way to insure/register the Oset? I was trying yesterday to get insurance, and no luck. I called 3 places (Touchstone, Alpine, Meloche). Got an Oset 20.0 (used), but can't get insurance it seems. Called Blackfoot to confirm, and these bikes don't come with a NVIS form, so my guess is that even if I get insurance, registration might be a problem. Checked the rules and regs, and it's clear to me that there is no loophole for electrics. Even called AB transport to see they could give me any pointers, but obviously, no luck.

I'll keep calling around, but if you have any suggestions, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Dave P and Dobi for the feedback. I actually just got a voicemail back from Alpine saying that they may be able to help, but I need to tell them what is the equivalent cc. I'll see where this goes. And may try Marie as Dave suggested.

I'll post my findings, negative or positive. Thanks.

I found a nice set of bent forks while washing the PW50 this weekend. Not sure how or when he did this. The bike hasn’t even had it’s first oil change....
