Linkage Guard.

Post by bikingagain »

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Linkage Guards. Are they worth it? They seem to be a smart thing to have but I don’t know much about them. Thanks in advance.

From experience i have been thrown over the bars from hanging up on the linkage a few times.
This product will find its way onto my beta unless i can make one my self :smirk:

They are worth it but you don’t need the $500 ones. A couple skid plates now have s built in linkage tail. TM designs I think and sxs slide plates. I have one on my bike and it works awesome.

New tmd skid plate comes with integrated beaver tail would definitely make my short list.

I run the TMD skid plate with the built in beavertail linkage protection on my 250 XC and the $500 Fastaway skid plate kinda one on the Beta. My advise is save your $500..

Looks like there are some ‘cost effective’ alternatives out there

Are the plastic ones good enough on their own, or do you need to add some type of metal cover also. Thanks for all the great replies so far.

I have 160hrs on my Obie beaver tail, still in good working order. Only thing I don’t like is it takes a couple miniutes to get it all lined each time I take the skid plate off. I have the thinner gauge model.

Plastic is good enough in my opinion. I had a Slavens aluminium guard on my '12 350, but switched to the Obie for my '16.

I think Polisport makes an "extra protection" skid plate that covers the link too. Might be worth checking out. I have a TMD on my KTM, which is great, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra super premium price.

the old KTM and Acerbis plastic ones didn't last at all. The new TMD one with the integrated linkage guard is holding up well for me now. I have had really good luck with the SX Slideplate one that was on my 16. I feel it has better mounting than the TMD one for durability. It also has a double coverage on the link guard.

I do prefer the plastic to the aluminum as I think it allows flex and makes the bike ride better. it is also quieter
