Has anyone tried the Leatt helmets?

Post by Dakota_c69 »

I am considering getting one of the new Leatt 6.5 helmet to combine with a new neck brace. Has anyone tried this helmet? Who sells them locally?

Thanks!

I bought one of the "new" 5.5 ones about 3 months ago, it's the newer style that's not Dot rated, only ece, so it has a lighter weight shell than the older Dot 5.5. It fits my head really well, is comfortable, light weight, and extremely well vented. I like the additional safety features as well. Despite being told the new 5.5 and the old 5.5 are supposed to have exactly the same fit, the new style fits me very well while the old style definitely did not, which is why I hadn't bought one previously. Before you pull the trigger on the carbon 6.5 I'd definitely recommend trying the new 5.5 first. I use an original leatt moto gpx neck brace as well and they work together very well.

As a result of a recent concussion and subsequent google-fu, I am sold on the MIPS and leatt turbine core technologies that can reduce initial rotational forces in a impact. I have a 2018 (new) 5.5 composite and it’s really nice, nearly as light as the suomy, but fits my head better, I would say if you have a suomy or a shoei head it will be a good bet. It also has a bit of taper at the back so when you use it with the neckbrace you can still look up a bit more than with a conventional helmet and don’t get as much constant impact on the brace. The ventilation and materials also seem great. In fact I like the 5.5 composite so much, that I have ordered a 6.5 carbon fiber as well, It isn’t really any lighter, but dimensionally it is a bit more compact. Bow is bringing mine in but cycleworks was also placing a big “new” order.

I accidentally tested the gpx5.5 and pretty sure it did its job. Was alittle sore but back to work the next day. Replaced it with a gpx6.5. The weight differences is so small its hardly worth mentioning. The fit with the leatt neck brace is oddly perfect. Also the ventilation is a incredible.

I have a new version 5.5. I talked to Leatt and there is a difference in fit between the latest models and past models. The cheek pads have been beefed up in the new model.

I came from a Fox carbon and this helmet is miles better. It's lighter, better ventilated and I don't look like the villain in Space Balls wearing it.
