Chain Break tool?

I'm finally changing my chain and sprockets. Unfortunately the front sprocket isn't in stock so I have to wait until Tuesday to know for sure about my chain length. Does anyone have a chain break tool I can borrow in case I have to remove a link or two?

I've got a chain breaker, though I'm not sure how close I am to you. As an alternative, if you have an electric drill and a grinding wheel you can always try grinding down the stakes and then prying the link's side plate off with a screwdriver. I've done that in the past and it works reasonably well. Then the question is do you have a link press to get the master clip on?

I have a chain breaker you can borrow Joe or once you figure out chain length bring it down to my place and we'll remove the rivet heads on the grinder and push them out with the chain breaker, it will take about 2 minutes.

Use a grinder and a punch. Just did one like this yesterday and have many times before.

You're right Steve. I got the extra links off easy enough, but I'm having difficulty setting the master link. I'm on the south side if anyone could help me out.

I have had questionable luck using strategically placed small vice grips for squeezing making enough room to slide the master on.

For setting the master link, I've found a small socket over the pin and a small c-clamp work great, no problems getting the clip on after as you can fully seat the pins with ease.

I drilled out an old master link plate and carry it in my pack to use as a press with vice grips to squish it all together. In the shop I have a fancy motion pro tool for splitting and pressing, but find the grinder and the vice grips work just as well.....

Motion pro chain breaker and rivet tool is expensive but really works well for anything you need to do with a 530 chain. No more stupid clip type master links that wear out for me.

X2 The PBR tool is the ticket, and rivet type links are what I prefer as well.
