2017 Hondas Released

Post by cerealkiller »

INTERESTING! They're coming out with a new off-road model - a CRF450RX. Coil spring forks, electric starter and the regular off-road accoutrements.

Look a little closer at the spec sheet, a few interesting notes: plastic front and rear disc guards, skid plate, 260mm front disc brake, 5-speed transmission, kick and electric start.

However, 261 lbs with a full fuel tank and all fluids. That seems a bit hefty. I'm assuming about 13lbs of fuel in the 2.2 gallon tank.

Compared to the claimed 221 lbs for the 2017 KTM 350 XCF (+ ~14lbs of fuel = 235lbs). That's a pretty big discrepancy. The 2016 350 was supposedly 227, so even before the switch to air forks, the KTM is 20lbs lighter? Yz450FX is one pound heavier at 262. The 450 XCF is 243.6 with fuel.

We should compare apples to apples, so comparing the Honda 450 to the KTM 450 might be fairer.
KTM claims the 2017 450 EXC-F weighs in at 233.7lbs with no fuel. Fuel weighs in at 13.64 lbs (8.51L). So total is 247.34lbs. Still lighter though by a lot. (14lbs) if both manufacturers are honest.

This translates to "Oversize aftermarket tanks will be rather expensive"
