Have always enjoyed DB mag over the years, but this history of the 300 is a head scratcher
Its full of wrong dates and numbers. It mentions a couple of times the 300 has been around 21 years - not even close on that one.
Says the first 300 was developed for 1986 ISDE...hmmmm I raced a production 1985 300 in the Canadian National XC series then rented a 1985 300 from KTM for the 1985 Spanish ISDE.
Maybe they wrote the article right after completing their helmet shootout and personally lawn darted/crash tested all the the helmets :excuse:

Very cool! Kind of a related question - How much did renting 1985 300 from KTM for the Spanish ISDE cost in 1985?

It was $900.00 CND, but it was a different deal back then compared to todays rentals. In 1985 the $900.00 also included a free revalve at the White Power truck...oops, I mean WP truck :bonk: you just had to remove the shock & forks yourself and take it to the truck. It also included free parts for the race. Although if you had to replace anything major there was a dude from KTM waiting to take the part as soon as you removed it. The only reason I know this was I had to replace the engine side cover on my 300 the morning of day 4 and I had a KTM guy stand over my shoulder the entire time while I replaced it, then he immediately took the cover from me once off the bike.
KTM also had the bike licensed and street legal for us.
Today you pay for parts and I don't believe there is a free revalve included.
