Re: New Yamaha
For the 2015+ WR250f, what is needed to make it as competitive for racing as the YZ250FX?
I presume the competition ECU and a less restrictive exhaust to beef up the power and a number plate to ditch the headlight. Does the suspension need a revalve too or would it be decent with the right springs? Anything else?

Would removing a headlight really make you faster or the bike more competitive?

Re: New Yamaha
In our group we have a stock FX, my FX sprung for 220, and a decorked WR with ECU.
In on trail bike swaps, the FX's are preferred over the WR in suspension and power delivery.
The exhaust on the FX is a "euro MX" not too barkey but no spark arrestor...
I went full USFS Akro Ti for the US races where they DB test and probe, but a slip on Akro is available.
The slip on, if Ti, an Li battery and deleting the kick stand (YZ hanger) is good for 6lbs off, the can and battery being weight up high.
Then add your bush armor back in.
For racing locally, do springs and a battery, good to go.
Adding lights to a FX is easy, 160 watt (iirc) DC stator just add harness right off the battery.
I haven't found switched (well, reciprocating) power yet for a full secondary relay, but it should be available off the factory FP relay.

Not nearly as much as an RMDRA sticker does.Ahamay wrote:Would removing a headlight really make you faster or the bike more competitive?

Less expensive when you inevitably smash it in a race.Ahamay wrote:Would removing a headlight really make you faster or the bike more competitive?

Re: New Yamaha
I'm looking for small gains Ahamay, plus that "I'm a serious competitor" look.
Re: New Yamaha
I usually find removing the headlight is easier than picking pieces of it up off the ground after a good tree smashing. In its place I zip tie a small 5 dollar light to my handlebars which is just as compliant.Ahamay wrote:Would removing a headlight really make you faster or the bike more competitive?

Re: New Yamaha
Where do you get that small headlight Brapp791?
Re: New Yamaha
The one I have now came from Canadian Tire in Airdrie. I went back to grab another one and there was no stock. They have all sorts that would work but I am picky that way. If I can find this certain one again I will probably by 3 or 4. They also come with the battery which is pretty sweet.

Re: New Yamaha
So I liked the 250FX so much, that I bought another...
Finally got it out this weekend in BC on rubber. Short list...
15 YZ250FX
Cylinder works 269 cc kit
Galfer 270mm rotor
Tusk Li battery
Factory fan
Kickstand delete (YZ bracket)
The usual armour
RaceTech .50/6.0 springs
To come:
Stage 1 Hotcams
Magura hydro clutch (for a YZ but doesn't seem to have the throw to disengage the FX?)
Full Akro Ti
Scotts damper
Bib Mousses
Retro yammie plastics version 2
Baja Designs S1 / UFO tail
The 270 kit did what I hoped; chunked up the low to mid, and so far seems I can carry the trail and climbs a gear taller...
Cams next, supposed to move the power down lower too.

37 is not very tech savy, you may need to explain how to send a email or PM to forum member.thirtyseven wrote:I don't have your email...WrRider wrote:thrityseven: please email me. I have some trail questions. FWIW, I also have a YZ250FX.
