New Yamaha
Re: New Yamaha
I have. Drain old fuel, pour in the elixir, hold on tight. It doubles everything, and smells really good.
Yup. Got a new one.

You don't dilute it?golarge wrote:I have. Drain old fuel, pour in the elixir, hold on tight. It doubles everything, and smells really good.
Re: New Yamaha
I didn't. I was just curious to see what it was like. U4.4 is at the top of the list. So much so it is illegal for use in most racing competitions. So that's what I bought. Yikes $$$$.
Just amazing the difference from pump gas. Like I said double everything. It's not exactly double, but you no what I mean. The cost is why everyone cut's race fuel with pump gas.
If I ever win the big lotto, race fuel for my bike, what the heck, race fuel for all members of RMDRA.

Size queen no more... Absolutely loving it locally.
CAVEAT: Have to see if wringing it's teats off in the Washington Desert 100 proves out OK.
I know it will be just fine for the Idaho City 100. Vegas to Reno is TBD.

The real question is does the bike love you?

Re: New Yamaha
Got a Chance to take this bike for a short test ride and loved it. The motor is silky smooth and the suspension was better then my Custom suspension I have. I will say that the KTM 250 XCF still has better handling side to side. The yamaha felt Slow or less nibble. The Cable clutch was surprisingly good with a much lighter pull then the 2015 KTM 350 XCF that I got my hands on recently. I thinking their will be a lot more blue out there in the next couple of years.

Re: New Yamaha
Programmed and loaded a softer map for 1/8-3/8 throttle fading out to regular timing and fuel by 7000rpm, was noticeably a bit better on the tight stuff Sunday.
Still very snappy off the bottom compared to Howard's... Odd.
Don't mind it in the two track (in fact LOVE IT) but in the gnar knocking you about it's tougher to manage. Will map a bit further and try adjusting idle up.
Failing that, perhaps I can soften it up with a "coke can" mod.
Aside from the tip in response issue, IMO this bike does nothing poorly and everything very well: turns, tracks, tractors, rips, eats the hack/chop, and leaps without bottoming, and for me inspires, so much more confidence, more than my TE250, which I found to be a great woods bike.
Coming up 10 hrs and a valve check, lost a side panel bolt, but no issues otherwise. Found the cold start knob too.
Hit about 90 kmph with stock gearing, and it was still pulling...
Forks at .50 kg/mm, and raised 6mm, rear 6.0, sag at 105mm but should check that with bags and some more seat time.
Maybe less sag and more fork raise liven it up, not that I'm finding it slow. The races we plan require high speed stability too.

Re: New Yamaha
Well, I can report this bike takes crashing out like a champ.
Rarely need to back off the triples after a hard biff (a la KTM), no doubt rubber mounted bars assist but the cast triples are burly.
And the nice tight aftermarket Cycra rad shrouds help keep from catching too much rhubarb, rad guards will go on before next ride tho - close calls.
Wraparound header all within frame.
12 local bush hours makin' it looking like 100...
Endoed on 1st ride, then surfed it downhill on its side for a bit yesterday.
