husaberg piston rings

rebuilding the top end on my husaberg te250 (smoker) and started looking at the old rings and groves in both rings and both sides on both rings. these flat spots seem to be manufactured into the rings from factory and the replacement top end (vertex) are competely round with no groves/ flat spots.
anyone know why these are the way they are?
