Tires
Time for a new rear tire, just in time for the Dirtier Moose race. Any suggestions?
I've always been an S12 kinda guy, but I was very disappointed in the performance this time around. There are practically no side knobs left.

Re: Tires
I'm running an s-12 right now too. I think it's a decent tire for dry use, but was very disappointed in how it works in the wet.
Loosing knobs isn't normal though. Mine is wearing very well - much better than the MX52 I had previously. Grip seems about the same. Maybe your tire was old?
The only other rear tire I've tried recently was the Pirelli Scorpion XC - which didn't grip as well as either the MX52 or S-12, but did last a very long time.
I've purchased a STI Tech 2 MXC and a Dunlop MX51 for my next two tires to try.

Re: Tires
M5B is popular. Good in the snot too.
Re: Tires
Is that the rare and elusive "made in Spain" S12 ? Those were my favourite tire. Too bad they changed the manufacturing and compounddirtyboy wrote:I have 3 races on my S12 XC tire at the moment. Was thinking of making it 4. And it is dated 2005 on the side.

Re: Tires
I have picked up a GoldenTyre GT216. Looking forward to trying it out! They are pricey, but going to give it a chance.

They are great tires! Match it with a GT 230 rear and you have a deadly combo!Dakota_c69 wrote:I have picked up a GoldenTyre GT216. Looking forward to trying it out! They are pricey, but going to give it a chance.

Re: Tires
GT216 or GT216X? As a DOT tire, I think the knobs look short... but folks seem to really like it. The X is a trials compound... apparently wicked sticky but your mileage may be completely sucky!Dakota_c69 wrote:The GT216 I bought is a rear tire.Braap791 wrote:They are great tires! Re: Tires
I went with the GT216. The 216X is a very soft (twist knobs 180 degrees with your fingers), doesn't last long, and is more expensive. When I asked for the tire they originally brought me the 216X, luckily I checked before taking it.
The knobs on the GT216 are short, they fall under FIM requirements for thread depth, which means a maximum of 13 MM. The rubber compound is s'posed to be quite grippy (<--- Technical Term) though, but not so good in deeper mud/sand. Hopefully there is none of either at the Dirtier Moose! Though both my races up to this point have been muddy, so odds aren't good...
Thanks to Mike Smith for his Tire Mounty Rack Thingy help!
