Doug,
Are those Expensive alternatives melted into the tyre? That would be a similar process to a car tyre, wouldn't it?
I seen a bike at the Bike show today that I swear had self tappers in the front tyre!
Would they be worth the time fitting?

Buggo,

The alternatives are very similar to roosters tires. a hole is drilled in the tire then a stud is shot in with an adhesive. that is the melting look you are seing. Ask Rooster those tires are not easy to make. He should look like arnold shwartzeneger soon!
They are very similar to a car type tire stud.
I have always heard people have tried self tappers but I dont think they would hold. And they are a soft metal. Ice track screws are heat treated so they dont wear as fast. I am sure thats why they rust faster.

If you have a buddy that has the same intrests. split the cost of a box of screws. buy a mastercraft 3/8 drill for 30$ and while you are watching sleepless in seatle on the couch you can screw all night long.............!

:bonk:

HEHE

I am going to the bike show sunday and will have a look out for the bike!

Hahhaa.. Glad I am not the only one who gets suckered into those kinds of movies with wives/g'fs.

Where do you buy your studs DIRTTV?? (ice track ones, the hex , heat treated, and sharpened.)

And yes, my buddy with the ice track tires puts worn out streetbike tires strips in the inside then a tube to prevent flats.

As stated, with the right length screws, double tubing should be alright.
