Alberta Fire Protection Area Closure

Post by Rider Eh! »

Hi All,

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but Mclean and Waiparous are closed indefinitely due to COVID-19

Anyways, no where to ride for now locally as Wild Rose is also closed.

Yep a bit of a shock, for sure. I can (sort of) understand the potential for staffing issues, but obviously this is social engineering. there is more snow than I've seen in years, and Albertas' wettest month still ahead. I think there is a near complete disregard for peoples emotional well being. The value of being able to recreate responsibly on an OHV and what that can do for a persons physical and emotional health matters. These are dark times for many, and a small source of light has been extinguished.

It is worth noting that this does not come from AEP, but rather the ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. I miss the days when forestry was a part of ESRD...

Glad I own a plated bike...

What surprised me most was that they claim April/May are peak fire season here. I have a very hard time believing this is factual, as it is typically still wet and not our peak for lightning.

OHV use has been moved from prohibited to allowed on the https://www.albertafirebans.ca/ website.

Great job by the AOHVA and everyone on ensuring we can get out and recreate responsibly!

That is not what I just read on the Alberta website. Could you direct to where you read the update?

https://www.albertaparks.ca/albertapark ... /ohv-bans/

update: OK i see if you click on the forest area fireban it shows OHV allowed. Weird. Conflicting info, I hope the fish cops are aware of the new rule..
