Koocanusa early season

Post by shedrider »

Anybody been down to Kooc?
It might still be a bit early, but let us know if you've been down there and what the conditions are like.
Happy trails

I understand that they logged out almost the whole area and there isnt much treed area left to ride. I also understand that there is a $50.00 entry fee taken at the Dorr road turn off , and I heard the Rangers are doing full bike inspections including insurance and registration before you are allowed into the area.

Rode last friday. We did not experience any of this.

Conditions are great. Fast and flowy

where did this rumor about a fee and bike inspections start? BC does not require insurance and a plate anywhere in the forest as long as your not ripping FSRs.

I didn't see any signs down there saying any of this, they would have to document this somehow for us. If anyone goes this weekend please let me know. I'm insured and registered so I don't have any issue about that but I would like to know.

Does anyone know what the lake water level is like, at the area where some folks have gathered in past years for Easter and Thanksgiving? Can those who don't ride, go in the water in kayak or canoe this early in the year? They can be on the water, while I am out riding... Thanks

The lake was down, but more than enough water to play with. Not a great pic of the lake but you can see there is quite a bit of water.

We were down there last weekend Friday-Sunday. Conditions where great.

No signs regarding insurance or registration and didn't run into any Fish Cops or whatever would be enforcing such rules.

Last Sunday there were two RCMP vehicles at the Dorr Rd turnoff when we were leaving. Seemed random; our buddies in the vehicle in front of us drove by without being stopped, but brentg and I were stopped, they checked his ID, then waived us thru. They didn't ask to see any bike docs.
