Sebastian and myself went to black rock on Monday and the conditions were pretty good. I'd say that studs were greatly appreciated, however, I'm sure you could get by without them...just don't do any of trail riding because the frost was under an inch of mud, so it was really slippery. We came upon some snow in the trees, but the west facing hills were as dry as a bone. When I go back I'm going to for sure take off my front studded tire; I'd take off the back one too, but I've shredded it so bad that it is pretty much useless now.

I had rubber tires and was glad of them, even though there were some icy sections. The rocks were a majority over the ice.
