200-250cc 2-Stroke Wanted

Post by BackInAction »

Hey Crew!

My brother, intermediate skill level, is looking for a fairly recent used off-road bike.

His desire is a KDX 200, but he will likely be interested in any, sub-open class, recent year 2-Stroke.

A KDX 220, KTM 200 would likely be fine too. He might step up to a 250 if nothing else smaller shows up & I have sent him the info on a couple of the KTM 250 & 300cc scooters already posted for sale in this forum.

He's not sweating flat out performance though, will only be an occassional rider, and just wants a no-fuss bike that will start easy & get from A to B with minimal input. Hence his desire for a KDX (we had 2 in the family for years generating nothing but smiles).

Question: When did the Japanese manufacturers jump to 4-Stroke only 250s? Or, put another way, what is the newest model year Yammy WR250 (2-stroke) that can be purchased?

Thanks!

I think that was '98, but you don't see too many of them around. MntBlue has a '97 I believe.

Love my 97' WR smoker. But I keep in Ontario, so I only ride it once and awhile. 98 is the last year of the smoker, unless you can find an Aussie version.

may sell my 01 mxc200

I just picked up a new 300XC and will likely sell my 2001 mxc 200, which is set up for bush riding. It has a fmf pipe, proaction suspention (full deal), every bush accessory available, and is set up for a shorter rider. I will be asking $4350.99 (just joking on the 99) obo with everything, less if someone is serious but doesn't want the a skid plate etc.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Zeal, I'll PM you with some questions on the 200 so as not to clutter up the forum with niggling detailed questions. The bike sounds interesting...to me at least. Although, being a KTM it's going to tie up a few more scheckles than a comparable Japanese scooter. See'ya in PM land.
