After much debate and after having run through several different plans for the race, we have made up our minds. (hopefully they won't change again
) Really though, regardless of the format we end up with on the morning of Aug 23, we know it's going to be a kick-butt race and everyone will love the hard work we've put into making this happen! Here is the scoop. We will have a challenging but totally doable approx 45km course on the East side of Fisher Creek Road as well as a very difficult Pro loop on the West side of the road. We will accurately measure the course prior to race day so that people will small tanks can figure out their gas situation. If needed we will have a remote gas stop only for guys who think they won't make it around the loop.
Ladies and Beginners will complete the East side loop once.
Juniors/Vets/Intermediates/etc will have the opportunity to complete the East side loop twice assuming they make the cut-off.
Pros will complete the East side loop once and then cross over and complete the West side loop once.
Once this XC portion is completed, the Ironman Competiton will begin. The competition is open to Pros, Vet Masters and Intermediates only. We will have a starting line up beginning at a specific time that we will determine once we have timed out the course. It will be approx 3 - 3 1/2 hours after the XC has begun. In order to race the Ironman, riders must show up at the Ironman start line on time. If you are late, you are not allowed to head out on the course. It is recommended that if you are not a Pro rider, you buddy up and help each other out to ensure you all get out alive.
The Pro loop has actually been tamed a bit (as per Brent) but you can certainly expect to be put to the test. No crying on the course. The winner of the Ironman will recieve an amazing payout and will etch their name into the King of the Forest crown and keep it for one year until our next race.
