+1.

I was a part of that study and was impressed with their data collecting strategy. Very thorough.

Are there a decent pair of braces that are not too expensive? The cti's and astericks are way out of my price range right now. Having said that, way cheaper than surgery.

Hmmm.... Aside from CTI's and Asterick braces (which prob are the best kinds)... maybe have a look at EVS (WEB or RS8 PRO are the better versions, but they have some very 'cost effective' options) or I think Thor makes something...more of a glorified knee guard though.

Allison is right, I had the Thor ones not bad.. but limited sizes.

Keep in mind to, you can get entry-level CTI's for a $500-600 ish. After I tore my ACL (but before Surgery) i wore the entry-level CTI on my damaged and a THOR knee pad on the other. Pretty good and fairly inexpensive.

And most insurance companies cover it. For my last job I just had to send a letter in from my doctor and a quote and viola covered!

Good luck!! I swear by my custom CTIs for shizzle. Surgery was bunk.

I agree with the helmet tester! Wrecked a knee without them. got them and crashed harder where my knee hurt but without them it would have been destroyed. Custom are spendy indeed but look at insurance to see. I know good chyro (sp?) that can check you out to see if you need them. - Spinalguy here on the board. Call him.

Otherwise check out the generic cti's like crash mentioned. Good luck.

The I pods by Fox are very comfortable and reasonably priced. If you can get a prescription from you doctor insurance may cover them.

If you have coverage I would highly recommend the custom CTii's. I got mine from Robin at Hitech (she is awesome). I have some pictures of broken braces. When the brace breaks, you don't need a study to know that you were just spared.

I have seen people get injured in lesser braces because the hing material is not strong enough to withstand the force of a hyper extension. Most people buy a brace after an injury. The lucky ones take proactive measures.

The CTI's don't have anything covering the knee cap I would be concerned about that.

Not true, there's a motocross package that attaches a knee cup to the brace.

How does that work exactly? I'm lining up a set of braces now, and am leaning towards the CTIs. Would you CTI owners out there help with should I be looking/asking for?
