I assume we all wear helmets anyway.

i did wonder about the comment "Alberta will abide by CSA helmet motorized vehicle standards"... I'm not sure if my lid bears any CSA marks. I'll be annoyed if I must purchase another just to have a particular sticker.

I'm worried about this I have an airoh six days helmet. It's a year old and I don't think it's DOT approved.

John your airoh is absolutely dot approved.

DOT is a CSA standard? I should be good to go.

DOT is "department of transportation" and is an American organization. In Canada your helmet needs to be CSA, BSI, snell or ECE rated. Almost all modern dirt bike helmets will meet one of if not all of these standards. They just don't want people out there wearing bicycle helmets or strapping a bucket to their head

OHV safety helmets must comply with the same standards that exist for motorcycle helmets in
Alberta’s Vehicle Equipment Regulation, which indicates the standards are:

• • CSA Standard CAN3-D230-M85, Protective Headgear in Motor Vehicle Applications;
  • Standard No. 218; Motorcycle helmets under Part 571.218 of the Code of Federal
  Regulations (United States), Title 49;

  • Snell Memorial Foundation 2000 or 2005 or 2010 Standard For Protective Headgear, For

  concerning the approval of protective helmets and their visors for drivers and passengers of
  motorcycles and mopeds.

I probably could've read the FAQ attached to the announcement before fear mongering on the forum.

My Formula Stryper helmet is D.O.T , Snell M2010 and CE rated. Your Airoh John is DOT and ECE 22.05 Certified (ECE is the last bullet).

I am willing to put cold beers on a chance that there will be an issue at some point in the next six months involving a Fish/Wildlife Officer and someone trying to defend that their helmet is compliant.

There is no mention of DOT stickers/compliance being an accepted rating (because of how it is written), or anything other than CSA as being the primary standard. There is no "or" and "and" verbiage is the article that has been posted so will the expectation of the officer to see CSA stickers? Snell stickers? ECE 22-05 ratings? One of them, all of them? It does not appear clear and concise even though I know what the intent of the reg is.

CSA-compliant helmets

While I am not opposed to a helmet law for recreational users, especially those under 16 who may not be able to make a reasonable educated decision and while I have been wearing a helmet since at least 1983 maybe longer, I don't believe they have researched all the aspects of helmet use and ratings thoroughly.

Most of my helmets are DOT rated but it is described in the reg as US Standard No. 218, some are Snell, some are ECE 22-05. I would much rather wear a helmet with one of those ratings than a CSA rating from 1985 anyhow. So hopefully they have educated their officers as to what constitutes a CSA compliant helmet, as we all know they will read an interpret the rules as they see fit.
