For me, I also bring tape, zap straps, knife and a tow rope. It is from CT and is nylon strap that is .20 a foot.

a whistle
instead of JB Weld I carry 2" of two part appoxy putty
I've always want to add a package of Quikclot but it's a bugger to get outside the US so until I do, a waiver release so you can kick the body over the edge might come in handy.

Re: What do you keep in your hydro pack/ back pack?
most new backpacks come with a built in whistle on the chest strap
make sure you have enough tools to de-water a bike, change a tire, and change a plug. Add some JB weld and you should have all you need in most instance. Try doing maintenance on your bike in the garage solely out of your backpack for a while to make sure.
I run Eload in my camelback to help with hydration. It is the only one I find that doesn't go moldy from week to week if you forget to wash a pack. The gatorade in the right heat can mold in 24hrs.make sure you have enough tools to de-water a bike, change a tire, and change a plug. Rape whistles? Remind not to ride with your buddies!
To save space in the pack for delicious snacks and beer...
Wrap a couple feet of gorilla tape around your right fork leg, you can tuck reg'n and a plug (in a plug caddy) in your airbox or cover sometimes too, tuck a spare fuse into the solenoid rubber mount.

I suggest trying to get your friends to do maintenance on you bike soley out of their backpack. Doesn't really matter if they do it in the garage, the staging area or the trail. This is the best way to determine if you have the right friends. Thankfully for me, I've done a very good job selecting my friends, even if some of them don't know how to tighten oil drain bolts properly.Dobi wrote:Try doing maintenance on your bike in the garage solely out of your backpack for a while to make sure.

The current KTM seat has a location to accept a spark plug / spare fuse holder. One less thing in your pack.
Most trail side problems are avoided with good garage maintenance.
I seem to hand out 2-3 chain master links each year to people on the trail that have broken them or lost a clip. The clips wear out from rubbing against the chain guide so inspect them and maybe even carry a spare.

the little things like checking air filters for holes or existence, tightening a drain plug, replacing a bearing or two, changing fork oil more frequently than Halleys comets rotation of earth....Dave8444 wrote:What is bike maintenance? I'm new to this thing can you explain please?
