I welded a front bed rail wheel chock with 3 positions, fits 2 up facing forward easy.
To fit the third in backwards (bar interference), I placed my aluminum bike stand with the flat top towards the bed, and the curved base against the bikes rear wheel. Worked good.

We do it all the time (in fact I've done three snow bikes). No need to complicate things by putting the middle one in backwards. Just get a milk crate (or similar) and put it at the front of the box in the middle to space the middle bike back a bit so the bars don't hit.

Load 2 outside bikes with the front tires meeting in the middle of the box, lay the bikes over so they almost touch the bed and load the middle bike as normal.
