HVAC

Post by Spinalguy »

HVAC!!!!
Any of my internet friends in Calgary fix furnaces?
Intermittent heating for 1 week.
Pilot light works but burners may/may not fire up.
Thermostat has new batteries and furnace had a 30 sec re set.
Did not solve problem.
When burners burn, nice blue flame.
When burners do not light, continuous 'clicking' noise.
Bows nice cold air.
Lennox Whisper Heat
model # G20Q3E-75H(maybe4?)-2
i will pay cash to come fix. i did buy a thermocoupler in case and some emory cloth as a "expert" in USA suggested the heat sensor needs to be cleaned. This entails taking 2 doors/flaps off and it is beyond my comfort level.

Thanks!!!!
Not tonight but Fri after work? Sat? etc?

You say there is a continuous clicking when the burners do not light. That sounds like you have auto ignition so there wouldn't be a pilot light. If that is the case, then you need to remove the flame rod/sensor and clean it with a very fine sandpaper (400 grit or finer) or an older style dollars bill or replace it if that doesn't work as the other guy mentioned. The confusing part is "pilot light" and "thermocouple" as a flame sensor/auto ignite doesn't exist if these are present. The thermocouple creates a small electric current when it's heated by the pilot. This powers a magnet in the gas valve that holds the valve open when you release the pilot button after holding it for 30 seconds or so. If the thermocouple is bad, it won't generate enough power to hold the electro magnet and the pilot light goes out. If it is indeed a pilot light system and your pilot light stays lit, then it's not your thermocouple and either a circuit board or your gas valve.

That helps.
Ok, so it is autoignition. What i see is a small flame burning when we start the furnace. Normally, the burners than ignite but more often, they do not but the small flame is still present with continuous clicking. When furnace is off, no flame present.
Thanks.
