Hey
Just a bike crazy lad with Alberta on his mind.
Peering through this looking glass to inspect the motorcycle scene three doors over...
Attended school for the precision trades (Machining) and a registered Machinist/Pattern Maker Apprentice.
Currently employed by a local manufacturer as 'Process Analyst'.
My father recently moved to Edmonton (St. Albert) and I am seriously considering joining him.
Any input regarding career opportunities welcome
Thanks and look forward to some high speed bench racing
Patty
P.S. Any Helicoptor pilots or Professional Divers out there?

You forgot the part about the best powder skiing in the world less than 3 hours awayShibby! wrote:Welcome!
I recently came from Saskatchewan and I am very impressed with the riding out here! Within an 1.5 hour radius there is a lot of great riding and scenery! Not to mention with about 5 hours you can have the best road riding of Canada and most of north america!
G'day
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
Edmonton or Calgary....no concrete decision as of yet.
I am open for discussion on that topic (Who knows what kind of war i may have started) I believe it will all depend on where I find myself employed...but riding conditions obviously play a major role!
As for Ms. PKat's observation..... *knowing smile

Hey Kick start
By all accounts I don't doubt that there is tons of work out there for a tradesman. My father is an accomplished 'Master Machinist/Tool & Die' and currently employed by two shops in Edmonton. This took less then a month upon arrival to line up. (He shipped out at the start of December) He loves it especially compared to the nickel & diming that goes on here.
Unfortunatly the industrial climate here isn't nearly as active.
The Pattern Shop where I served a large part of my hours almost went under due to lack of work. But of course when it rains it pours...
I'm still in contact with a few of the ol' lads there and they are continually dealing with the threat of a lay off. It goes through cycles...
I'm looking to broaden my career path though.
Taking my Rec. Diving this month...

Not a nice mission...
Not much need for them here either.
If I were to follow through with the Diving I'd be looking for work offshore.
An acquaintance of mine is currently the first mate on a dive ship, stationed in the Caribbean. I'd love to find myself flying down there for eight weeks at a time to 'work'. I'm just looking to compliment my trade experiences with the diving skills.
Thats in the future :p
I'm sure I can find some worthwhile work out your way.
I've been surfing the local job banks and as it was stated earlier...the oil field is in high gear.
Thanks again

Hey Bushpilot, where do you go riding in Ont. I'm orginally from S/W ont, been here for 15yrs. I head back a couple of times a year to go riding at the Ganaraska Forest or ST Williams. My buds back home have been out here for a few biking trips, and they pretty much hate me now after I show them our riding

g'day
Hey
I actually live right between the Ganny and Northumberland Forest on the south shore of Rice Lake.
E-108 runs through the farm I live on, just south of my house, so it's an easy jog anywhere around here.
The riding around here is pretty good...
Guys drive from all over the GTA to ride in my back yard.
But I'm betting I will be impressed with the scene in the western trails.
If your ever out this way feel free to drop a line and we'll go riding.
Patty
