Female rider new to Calgary and looking for other beginner riders!

Post by Tiffany »

Hi Everyone!

I just joined RMDRA and am looking for people who are around my level (or a little bit better and willing to put up with a beginner) to ride with. I just moved here exactly 1 week ago from Kamloops. Prior to this I was in Fort St John, BC which was where I purchased my bike and got started. I have been riding for a little over a year (but not often) and can ride single track slowly, not fast. I previously rode with GKMA (Greater Kamloops Motorcycle Association) and attended their guided ladies rides which I found a lot of fun. I had a really good riding buddy in Kamloops but alas had to ditch her when I moved.

I was really looking forward to attending club nights, however I work downtown and have a meeting that goes until 4:30 on Wednesdays, making it near impossible for me to grab my bike, fight rush hour traffic and get out to the trails, and all suited up in time for 5:45. Does anyone know whether this is possible?? Or know of another solution? Will there be any club nights that are not on a Wednesday?

If anyone is also around my level and would want to ride with me please give me a shout! Would love to hear from you. I am available to ride after work any other day and on weekends. I typically like to ride with people who's goal isn't speed.

Hope to eventually make it out to a club night or ladies ride night soon!

Welcome Tiffany!

I encourage you to suddenly feel poorly around 3 pm the next two Wednesdays.

The first is Ladies Night:

And the second will include a Beginner Night:

And it is at paved loop, the closest staging area to town.

Once you meet some folks, you will quickly find your tribe.

Also, please do not hesitate to ask for help... 430 from downtown is totally doable, but you need to have your bike with you. Can't do that? Ask if someone can collect it for you the night before and meet them there. We get 40+ riders and every one of them is good people... someone lives in your part of town and will step up. If not, I will - I drive across the city every morning and will trailer next Wednesday if need be.

Leaving at 4:30 sharp will get you there just in time, I did this for the first ride this year. Not ideal but doable.
