Hey everyone, new to dirtbiking...

Post by Centmo »

Hi everyone...I'm 27 and living in Calgary and just bought a 1997 Kawasaki KDX220 and can't wait to get out trail riding. I'm pretty new to this and have only ridden dirt bikes a handful of times, but I pick things up quickly and am not afraid to jump right into it.

Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to ride with and am not too familiar with the local trails (Have been to Waiporous a few times, and McLean Creek looks like it might be a big offroading place), so I'll be checking the Upcoming Rides section.

Oh, does anyone have any suggestions on how to find some cheaper used gear (armour/boots/gloves)? Doesn't need to be fancy. I'm 6'0 185lbs, size 10.

Cool site, I hope to see some of you on the trails.

Cheers,
Ken.

Welcome. A few tips for a newcomer as I recently geared up as well.

Check out extremesupply.com for a great deal on Vemar VRX4 helemts. Retail $400 US for $89 plus $30 shipping and verrry nice. Same quality as $600+ Shoei etc helmets sold locally. Made in Italy if you can live with that. Very popular Euro brand that never made here. Was delivered in 5 days. Shade over 3lb. DOT which is better than Snell for offroad.

Motorcyclecloseouts.com have super deals too. Pants on sale in Calgary for $200 you can get for $50-60US. Brand jerzeys for $25.

Locally, the mountain bike shops are good for light weight body armour and prices are OK. Some great deals on used, no-fit boots on ktmtalk.com.
