Gas gas 300R

Post by martinb »

Hi guys, just joined your club and just bought a bike. New to riding....
Anyway got the bike a 2014 Gas Gas 300R 2 stroke machine.
Does anyone know what the pre mix ratio is.....can it be 20:1
Thanks for your help, bit of a silly question I know but really am a bit of a novice at this.

40:1 is safe with a quality premix like motorex, motul or opti, start with whatever is in the owners manual.

Another Gasser....nice! I'm getting tired of seeing orange on the club rides!
I would stick to the owners manual (the GasGas website has all the manuals/specs on their site) unless the bike is jetted differently from the original set up.

I'd make sure to pack a spare plug with those ratios... :D

Seriously though, I realize this is a topic where you can rationalize just about anything, here's what works for me; Bikes like the 300 (and all larger bore 2s) burn a fair amount of gas. All of that gas is mixed with oil, which does not burn. In my bikes I ran 55-60:1, with ZERO issues ever related to oiling. And I have never heard of an oil related seizure, or any seizure for that matter, not related to heat e.g. total loss of coolant. Will your bike run on 20-40:1? Sure. But all you'll do is be wasting money, fouling plugs, powervalves, and muffler packing.

Some people say to run higher ratios in small bikes, 50cc, 65cc, and up, but I still run my high flashpoint full syn oils with no issues, and run the same gas I would burn in my 300.

Just my $0.02, YMMV

Manual should say 50:1 on that bike, When I had a 300 GG I was running Opti2 at 80:1 based on some recommendations from fellow club members.
Bikeless....
