First time dirt rider question?

Post by CPitty »

I am just getting into the sport, totally have the bug. I have ridden street before (not for a long time though) and I am really looking forward to this new sport.
I am actually still in the hunt for a bike. I am looking for a used one before I really get an idea of what I am looking for in a bike. Can anyone give me their thoughts on a 2012 GasGas 250 ec 2 stroke? I am in contact with a guy looking to sell. It has approximately 75 hours and he is asking $4900. Good deal and/or is this a good place for me to start?
Thanks for the help, and I can't wait to see you out on the trails.
Colin

Yea it would be the perfect bike for the trails around here. There's always the people that say a certain brand is better than another, but the bike is dead on target. Try to get some $ off though. Only KTM has high resale. You're probably going to have to a top end soon.

Thanks for the reply. I've reading about people having a new "top end", what is involved in doing that and what would the cost to me be (approx.)?

Piston head and rings are a new top end. It'll cost you around $500. Try to get that $500 off the asking price because it generally should be done around 100 hours. Many people do it around 50 hours. I likely won't do mine until 150ish.

Bought my first bike....2011 GasGas EC300. Now the biggest problem I have is starring at it everyday and waiting for the weather to get better!
Thanks for the advice and help...I am ready to hit the trails now, see you all out there!

Nice bike! Be prepared to have your arms ripped off. If you wanna spend some more money and have an easier time getting used to off-road, get a Rekluse. It'll smooth out that big hit for you too.

Get some grip studs and go ride it! Go see Dean at Blackfoot direct. You made a good choice with the 300 they are great motors for the woods.

Get some bestgrip studs, premix and winter ride. There is no a replacement for seat time. If your new to dirt bike riding its best to get a season on the dirt before you try the snow.
