Hello All,
My wife and I emigrated from The Netherlands to Calgary in the spring of 2013.
Before that, we drove around a lot in Europe on our Honda Africa Twins which we took on a 20 month trip around the world, starting in Canada heading south to Argentina, and then from South Africa back to Europe. (http://www.farawayfromflakkee.nl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
We now have one DRZ400 here and are looking for a second one soon, to drive on the ice (Ghost Lake) and as soon as the snow has melted we want to drive offroad as much as we can, preferably combined with bushcamping. (so 'continue' our world trip in the weekends, sort of ;-))
I hope to see you guys/gals on the lake or trails!

Thanks!
Finally bike #2 has a plate and all and is ready to hit the trails!
Which trails are rideable nowadays?
Last weekend I did some gravel north of Calgary, but for next weekend I'm looking for something more exciting.
- McClean Creek: I have read somewhere that this is closed for bikes till the 1st of May, is that correct?
- Powderface trial - is that rideable yet or still closed or snow-covered?
- An area NW of Calgary, close to the mountains - heard that there is some public land there where you can ride/camp/etc.?

I think the area NW of Calgary you're referring to is Waiporous. It's still got quite a bit of snow as of last weekend. Studs required unless you're just bumming around in the parking lot.

Yes, McLean is open on May 1st, but unless it's 15C every day until then it will likely be questionable for singletrack. We got a lot of snow this year. Waiprous is open all year long, but again, snow... You may want to check out Alberta Dual Sport Motorcycle Club, they are probably a little more up your alley. Having said that, you should come see what our club nights are like in May! Welcome to one of the best riding areas.

Could be; I am hoping to check it out this weekend though and will let you know whether it was rideable.
I just took the studded tires off the bike....
