Hello from new guy!

Post by Kwattro »

Hey guys is there room here in for fat middle age guys trying to get back into the sport? I'm hoping to connect with some like minded individuals to talk bikes, share tips, and do some riding. My eyeballs are on a Gas Gas ES300 and I'm going to be selling all my vintage Yammies to make it happen!

Welome. Fat and middle aged is about right, my only concern is with skill level. If you don't have and never had much skill, then you will fit in perfect. :D If you really want to find out more and meet some people come out to our AGM this Thursday evening, you can even get a super cheap membership ($40).

And I wouldn't buy a Gas Gas. I heard the best bike is a lighlty used 2012 KTM 350 XCF-W.

Nothing wrong with a Gas Gas! What vintage Yammies do you have?

Nothing wrong with them, but they're not as good as a lightly used (small child ridden really) 2012 KTM 350XCF-W.

Sorry Scott, Gas Gas it's going be my friend. I haven't ever had a modern, let alone new, dirt bike before. I'm super excited about it, but I think I'll need some help getting it set up. Ergos are soooooo different and I've got a bunch of car accident damage and equator overhang I'll need to adjust for.

As for the Yammies I've got an 81 YZ465 disassembled, an 81 IT465, and an 82.....you guessed it; IT465. Such awesome bikes, but I know I'll never finish the restore on the YZ and the 81 IT has like 100kms on it from new and I feel strangely guilty riding what should be preserved for monoshock history haha. Accumulated a bunch of OEM and special parts I won't have any use for now. Onward and upward.

Sure, here's a teaser pic. Yes that's the original paint on the expansion chamber. It's like a 9.0 bike and I have another 0.5 in NOS parts. That picture is from the day I put it away and I haven't touched it in years now. The other blue IT has more use but is better than some "restored" bikes I've seen and I've got some NOS for it too Oh and I have a new back tire for whoever wants it. The YZ was an 8.0 bike with a new top end, I took it apart, had the frame and pipe stripped, tossed out everything that wasn't useful anymore. It's 85% complete, new chain and sprockets too. The IT's will require typical hibernation wake up work to get them running again. YZ needs full assembly and finishing. I'm not in love with the bikes, I just want them sold. Totally open to fair offers.

Thanks Claude, I've already struck a deal with a dealer though.

PM's replied to.

* EDIT: Lots of interest but I think I'll wait for spring to put it in the for sale section. The bike is extremely hard for me to get to. It's in the very back of my storage with my street bikes in the way and a bunch of other stuff. I would need to have help to get them out and then put everything back. If I dropped a bike because of the snow and ice I would be sad. And when I'm sad I get grumpy. And when I'm grumpy my wife won't make me lasagna. You wouldn't want to see me without my lasanga.
