Porkies HS

Post by Bark »

Hi,

Based on the instructions on the poster and a brief chat with Dobi, this is what I could understand is the location for the Porkies HS. Could someone who knows check this map out please and confirm either way? TIA.

The poster instructions say:
Directions From highway 2, 4kms north of Fort Macleod take highway 785 west past Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. Road turns to gravel. Proceed 12kms to Beaver Creek road follow this road for 23kms to Beaver Creek Campground which is the race site.

http://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=AB-785 ... 6&t=m&z=11

Point A: Highway 2 & Highway 785 intersection
Point B: Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump
Point C: Intersection between 785 and RR285A or 785 and TWP91B (this might be Beaver Creek road? Google Maps can't be sure what the intersecting road is)
Point D: an intersection on TWP91B where you can go west or north
Point E: I guessed we want to go west at point D so in turn guessing this is the Beaver Creek Campground (don't know at all for anyone reading this)

Thanks,
Aaron

didn't look at your google map, but the description sounds about right. when you are on the gravel there will be a gradual curve to the left in the road followed by a fairly good hill. roughly around the 10k mark. after you crest the hill the turn to the campground beaver creek road, will be you next right, about 800 meters after you crest the hill on the right. then just drive and you won't miss it.

Your point D is the beaver creek campground.

At point C that is the toughest spot to navigate, since it's the only real turn. The gravel road is really wide there and you go up a substantial hill. After going down the other side will be your right hand turn at C.

Hmm, anyone know if there's a way to get to the race from Hwy 22? It looks like it would be shorter (for me anyways).

Definitely not a road to take in the winter but possible in a decent truck in the summer.

I'll be driving around the long way. :D

Big yellow bus will be down again this weekend. Even though it looks a bit rainy. Drop by for a bullshit and a beer.

Hi everyone. Had some inquiries about the race being canceled due to rain showers in forecast. THE RACE WILL RUN RAIN OR SHINE. Have a great route picked out which will work wet or dry and is around 23 kilometers long. I just ask everyone who pre rides the course to only go around once, not 5 times, to keep conditions at a premium. See everyone there, John.
