King of the Motos

Post by cedric »

This inaugural event is going down on Thursday in Johnson Valley, CA in conjunction with the King of the Hammers 4X4 event. Should be interesting.

The KOH for 4x4's is an insane event, i can not imagine bikes doing some of the same rock course. That area is known as 'The Hammers', hence King of.
i was 90% on my way down but it fell through.
i notice one competitor in the race is Chris Ridgeway, a single leg amputee

This event is underway now. Apparently Kurt Caselli has the holeshot, but I doubt that matters too much.

Found this video of Jimmy Lewis explaining the event:

That's nuts.

Been to the KOH past two years to spectate, rode Johnson Valley a bit both times, once for giggles, the other to check setup for Baja tour, but the true "Hammer" trails I wouldn't even try with the Christini. At least in Moab you get a bit of break between rock obstacles; there it is unrelenting once you are in the gullies. Edit: Out of morbid curiosity, what was the moto course?

i will see what i can find out.
This was first posted to promote...
The event is an extreme enduro combining an updated course of approximately sixty-five miles of high-speed desert racing and ten plus miles of brutal rocks.
The final course map will be released the morning of the event. Jimmy Lewis noted “this race will be difficult mechanically on the bikes and physically on the competitors. We expect the winner will be most well rounded rider and the most physically fit. It is literally a motorcycle survival race.”
