2012 Vacation Planning.....

Post by Dobi »

I am starting to plan my holidays for next year and am thinking of venturing outside of AB and BC to build my resume (okay, I really just want new race shirts.....)

You might be able to convince me to go for a road trip to Montana in late April.

I will probaby try to hit the Oreana 100 in Idaho in February again and if I'm lucky like last year hit a hare scramble in Richland WA the day after. It was a blast last year, Idaho was about 13 hours away then 5 hours to WA for the next day, then 9 home.

I would highly recommend the Idaho City 100 first over the others....this is a blast! You get 2 full days of riding and the riding is a lot like Kooc and maybe Kamloops. Many people will tell you that it is tight and technical, but they have never been to Mclean creek, so if you are used to Mclean then these trees are huge and very far apart. The drive is not that far either. The Big Sky XC is great but it is only a 2 hour race and it is typically very dusty and rocky and a hare scramble. The Idaho race is 100 miles per day (depending on your class) of one long loop. it is not like riding 100 miles out here, so don't sweat the distance too much. It's just an incredible coarse that takes you to the top of the Idaho mountains at close to 9000'. This is my all time favorite so far.
