Moose Mountain Night Race

Post by cerealkiller »

Does anyone have details about the night race this weekend? I see it's 1.5 hours long, but I'm curious about how the team aspect works. Do you ride at the same time or is there some sort of relay aspect?

From what I understand you have to cross the finish line with your team. So no leaving your buds in the bush for the night  .

Wicked lights. Add a helmet light and you'll be riding as fast as you do in the day time. :applause:

As part of the first place team at last years inaugural informal moose mountain night race I can say it's something you really want to do. It's also the only time the guy with the newest, nicest, most expensive equipment (i.e. lights) really does have an advantage. And if all else fails you can ride the course backwards and blind the other racers.

Haha. Nice. Any other tips for a rookie?

I've got a 15 degree spot (claiming ~1400lm) and a flood light (1200lm) mounted to the bike, plus I just picked up a 30 degree helmet light (900lm).

The bike-mounted lights are cheap Chinese clones (which is why I'm dubious about the lumen output), but in my backyard they seem at least as bright if not brighter than my pricier Visionx helmet light. I've never tried them at night on the trail though, so we'll see. Fingers cross I've got them aimed correctly and won't be trying to figure it out at 11pm Sunday night.

I balked at the $250+ price tag for the VisionX helmet light battery so I perused the hobby store and battery world for other options. Eventually I found this 2900mah sealed lead-acid battery (enough for 3+ hours of helmet light illumination) for a mere $20. Leaving both my wallet and backpack heavier than I anticipated. :smirk:
