Directions to the moose
I am coming into Fallen timber from the north (pigeon lake). But I haven't done it before. Is there a good route in from Sundre? I will have my trailer so as little gravel would be nice. Thanks for any input.

If you're going to have your big trailer, do yourself a favour and just take 22 down to Cochrane then come back up. From the north is a lot of gravel and from Water Valley is a bit twisty.

Re: Directions to the moose
The route through Cochrane takes 4.5 hours from Piegon Lake, the Water Valley route is 3.75 hours. I have never used the Water Valley route, but the 45 minutes might be worth it if the conditions Scott mentions is a problem for you. Of course, of all the advice I have received on RMDRA, the one piece of advice that keeps popping up is - Don't follow Scott.350scott wrote:If you're going to have your big trailer, do yourself a favour and just take 22 down to Cochrane then come back up. Here is the campground on Google Maps - https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=51.493462 ... 1&t=h&z=14

The Water Valley road is nice and wide and in great conditions.... until you get about 15 km from Hwy 40.... then it gets very twisty and would be challenging with a big rig. To give you an idea, they often close the road to the public all together when they have logging traffic on that end, and it does have a sign saying "not recommended for travel", and if it rains it washes out in some places.....

Re: Directions to the moose
Is there an easy place to park my trailer in Cochrane? Maybe I can drop it there, then run to the race with just my truck. Thanks for the info, I might have tried that water valley way and it now sounds pretty tough. My trailer is a 32.5 foot bumper pull, so not easy in the tight stuff.

The only issue with leaving it unhooked in cochrane.. is sometimes the RCMP or Bylaw is a little bit.. excited. I would not advise leaving it unhooked.

Just find a place in water valley, maybe the community center. I see unhooked trailers parked at the shell gas station on the corner of #567 and #22 all the time, might be a car show at the gas station this weekend, not sure. If you are coming that far you could just park it at my place and we could car pool
