Travel insurance for racing

Post by OsoBlanco »

A question for those of you that race in the US: Who provides your travel insurance and do they cover you when you are competing?
I was reading the fine print on my policy and it doesn't cover any type of motorsports competition.
Who offers racers coverage?

Thanks

I always used Travel Underwriters when I traveled and rode/raced.

When Noel got hurt at Erzberg, they where a life saver

I called Travel Underwriters directly and was told they didn't have a motor sports policy. I ended up going through a broker and when the paperwork showed up it was written by Travel Underwriters
Their "Freedom Motor Sports" policy is is based on age and is $16.80/day 0-40yrs old an goes up slightly with age. It has all the usual travel coverage plus the motor sports endorsement (contests of speed).

$16.80/day for race medical coverage works for me.

Hey Cory, I just recently had to get insurance for a Rally Race in Tunisia. I found the best price through CIBC. Their insurance was pretty comprehensive which also included cancellation, medical, dental and repatriation insurance (this was required by the Tuareg Rallye for entry).

Not sure if its applicable in Alberta, but when I was road racing and living in BC,
BCAA (CAA) would offer insurance called "participation in a speed test" or something like that.
Cost about $170/yr at the time.
Maybe its offered here in AB thru CAA?
