I've only seen sound-testing at Riviere's revenge a couple years ago. At that event, they measured the sound by revving my bike to the rev limiter in neutral. Is that how it will be done this year?
At the time, my 2008 YZ450F with stock exhaust passed the test with readings of 116, 108 and 109 (highest of the three was discarded).
The race page describes a differnet process: http://rockymountaindirtriders.com/race.shtml#sound and AMSA says bikes have to meet a 96 db test. The RPM test chart says my 350xcf would be revved to 5000 for this test.
So what process will be used this year?

Re: Sound testing question
I only went to 3 races last year and haven't seen or heard of any sound testing at all. Not to say they won't do it this year but when I did get tested the first time they gave you a 1 race grace period to correct if you test over like I did at reviere's in 2012.

Re: Sound testing question
That's interesting. More generous than I thought. I figured I'd have to show up early to test a new muffler in case I had to swap it back to stock before the race.
I've raced 5 times since riviere's in 2012 and haven't seen any other sound tests either.

Bikeless....
Re: Sound testing question
I have been sounded tested at National events (CECS, Pro MX) and those run by the PNWMA.
Good thing my 'grace' period is the last two races of the season

Re: Sound testing question
I'm reasonably sure the lack of testing last year for the CMRC series was related to the split from the ADRA to the AMSA.
Rumour has it that the AMSA is buying its own gear for the 2014 season.
Either way, it's only good for the sport to run proper exhaust, maintain it regularly, and make sure it's as quiet as possible.
