Winter bar mitt sliders
My bikes sport bar mitts most winter rides, aka “commit-mitts”. However, I’d destroy a set well before the end of a season, crashing those errant trees. So, I cut a used oil gallon oil container into strips and bolted it on the the mitts into the bark busters underneath, using the summer buster defl...

Penny Tech: KYB to WP spring shock collar adapter
Needed a 6.0 rear spring for my new to me ktm xc. Had KYB 6.0 kicking off my yammie, it was the correct free length but a bit too large of an inner diameter. Buddy informs me they do make adapter collars, but... Of course, I’m trying to get the bike together late on a Friday night for a test ride th...

Penny Tech Gear repair
Well drat. Those darn trees are dead set on picking on me again, jumping out and clawing and spearing my sweet Troy Lee jersey... They are just jelly of my flawless enduro technique, however while bark clad haters gonna hate, I once again look like a vagrant hiding out in the woods... Having no sewi...

Re: Penny Tech (TM) - KTM AC lighting circuit - cheap DC power
Found this diagram (from TrailTech) of typical regulated motorcycle stator AC circuit, and this is how the KTM is wired (see above), so I'd deduce that the KTM AC lighting circuit is regulated AC (~12V), but not rectified, given the factory use of AC lighting. How it works I don't know, magnets or m...

Re: Winter riding, radiator cover
Rad cap is from RMATV / Tusk, works pretty well. Boiled the XC over twice on slogging slow climbs in warmer weather, so wanted a 2.0 bar, although gearing it down a bit has helped things too.

Winter riding, radiator cover
Perhaps this is common knowledge but... Noticed during a winter ride with ambients below -10c, thanks to my thermostat radiator cap, that the coolant on my xc250 was rarely getting above 20c, and it was running poorly (jetting might’ve been a contributing issue, but I do have a carb heater). My xc h...

Penny Tech composite boot repair
Had a TCX Comp Evo crack at the inner wear/grip insert, after only a few months. Yes I got a deal on the Gumby green color, used once but unlike yours truly the previous owner had some pride and refused to be seen in them. No, I did not get a free bowl of soup as well as my buddy likes to enquire ev...

Re: Penny Tech (TM) - KTM AC lighting circuit - cheap DC power
Thanks Axel, was hoping someone with hillbilly lernins would chime in. From the diagram attached, the lighting is taken off the circuit from the stator to the regulator rectifier, but perhaps that’s how the regulator works, bleeds off excess voltage on the input? I didn’t rev it out to the limiter w...

Re: Penny Tech (TM) - KTM AC lighting circuit - cheap DC power
I will have to do a bit of searching, I didn't book mark the post on TT, but the fella was running a 30 watt chinesium LED with no ill effects. Was in the KTM 2 stroke section... Maybe a full regulator / rectifier is better? $50 EG: https://fortnine.ca/en/ricks-motorsport-electrics-rectifier-regulat...

Re: Anyone heading to Montana Soon?
For border shopping runs via e-commerce, I usually have a itemized spreadsheet with USA and CDN values, including shipping, and copies of all the invoices, printed up and organized in a inter-office mail envelope. Appearing that anal, usually the Cdn border agents just glance at the total and motion...

Penny Tech (TM) - KTM AC lighting circuit - cheap DC power
Was looking for more than the paltry 30W (2.5A) DC the stock KTM XC/XCW/EXC stator (08-15?) puts out to the battery... Namely to run some grip heaters for my delicate wee girly meat hooks, and maybe also a LED headlight, so I can see the tree I'm going to hit... Running either of these (necessities?...
