Re: KTM xc/xcw starter issue

From my own OCD bike maintenance experience, regular removal cleaning and greasing of all the bushings and the starter end cap bearing is all that is needed. Once one of the bushings or bearings starts to loosen up, it will increase the loading on the others causing the rest to wear at an increased ...

Re: KTM xc/xcw starter issue

When you get back in the garage with it to install the new parts, while you're there open up the starter motor, pull the armature out and add grease to the end cap bearings. KTM accounting people figured out they could save $0.02 cents by not adding any grease to them and force you to buy more parts...

Re: 2015 KTM XC-F Mud in Crankcase - Engine Rebuilders?

The big warning sign here is the oil screen. "Caked with clay" ... "and then it quit" were your words. Remember all 4t oil systems are partial filter systems. Meaning less than 50 % of the oil is filtered after it goes through the pumps. The rest goes through the motor to lub things and is eventuall...

Re: 4CS fork revalve question

Dakota_c69's forks are just about the best I have ever ridden. It felt as though the front wheel was velcroed to the ground. Similar action to the Kayaba SSS but with more feedback. I would steal his forks but we ride together on occasion and he might notice his forks on my bike.

Re: Chain Saw recommendations?

Good choice Joe. Over the decades I have had many saws including Stihl, Echo, Poulin, Husky, Homelite, McCormick and Jonsered just to name a few. In my opinion a good saw is all in the maintenace. Abuse it and a $1200 saw can become a paperweight just as fast as a $99 saw can. Learn to properly shar...

Re: Travel Trailer Frame Cracks

I have heard of a couple frames on Forest River bumper pulls ( I believe the frames were supplied by Lippert ) that cracked and they were repaired by the dealers. They simply weld the cracks and then weld an overlapping brace to spread the load in the area. There are a few engineers around the forum...

Re: Pipe repair

The very kind people at Cycleworks Calgary (Allison) have said that you can drop your pipe off with them as well for me to pick up and repair. Simply take your pipe to the parts desk and ask for Allison. Be sure your pipe has your contact info clearly marked on it. This is a courtesy that CWC is ext...

Pipe repair

It's no surprise that a few people have modified the contour of their pipes during the Rocks n Logs races. Over the next couple weeks I will be doing a few runs on repairs. If you need yours before the weekend - get it to me by Wednesday at the latest. First come, first served but space is limited f...

Best of luck to you and your family down there.

I'm sure there will be opportunities for you to get back up this way. When you do, bring your bike and gear, there will be a ride waiting for you to join.

Re: Best Woods Bike for Shorter Women

As Trailguy says, don't be discouraged by advertised seat height numbers. The rider's weight normally adds about 4 inches of sag (+ - ) so in the real world that 36" seat height is close to 32 when correct springs are installed. Install good quality ultra heavy duty tubes and lower the tire pressure...

Re: Best Woods Bike for Shorter Women

Check out the Beta Xtrainer. It may suit your needs.

Lowering a bike's suspension 2-3" will kill the ride, handling and geometry.

Re: Do you Rekluse?

For years I rode with a Rekluse in my bikes. Having one helped with my hands and elbows to last longer on a ride than they would have otherwise. Fast forward a few years and my elbows are in worse condition than ever and I have switched to a bike that many say you "must have a Rekluse" in. So but I'...
