Re: KTM xc/xcw starter issue

Interestingly, Jeff Slavens states that he developed the wet mod it for a customer but does not like it or use it on his own bikes. He cleans and regreases yearly. https://slavensracing.com/shop/2015-bendix-crown-wheel-upgrade-kit-for-ktm-husaberg-husqvarna-200250300/ He even gives KTM props for th...

Re: Midwest Clutch

I use one and have for three years. I found that the Rekluse with the belville spring really stiffened the clutch pull, and I went to Rekluse due to difficulties with my wrist / hand / nerves / stalling / crashing / sucking / exhaustion so I wanted the softest pull I could get. With the torque of th...

Re: KTM xc/xcw starter issue

Freeride is 250 two stroke. Looks like the same old 25/300 starter system (though hers is a 17 and cranks like CRAZY! - maybe fixed?)

Re: KTM xc/xcw starter issue

Has anyone tried the Slavens "wet" modifications? 1) Plug the case cover drain 2) Punch a hole in the stator wiring grommet 3) Add a vent (KTM 45130022000) in the added hole 4) Reassemble and fill with light oil (fork, ATF, etc.) I have considered doing this to Kaitlyn's Freeride. Any adverse effect...

Re: GoPro evaluations

The Extreme Sport DV was an AMSA sponsor last year. They offer a line of very affordable action cameras. https://www.xtremesportdv.com/ I chatted with the fellow at one race and he acknowledged they offer "knock off" cameras built offshore at a fraction of the cost of a gopro. If I wanted one, I wou...

Re: I need to borrow a clutch basket tool

I have always gotten by with an impact wrench. I ramp up slowly for the removal, and the last time I used an 80 lb-ft Torque Limiting Extension when installing (specification is 76 lb-ft IIRC). Like anything, use your judgement and follow this advice "at your own risk". It certainly works fine when ...

Re: 2012 Ktm 350 XC-F

In regards to XC vs XC-W, the choice almost always comes down to a riders preference and what they are looking for. For example I'm OK in the slow technical stuff to the point that an XC-W wouldn't be much of an advantage BUT I'm not really comfortable in the faster stuff and the setup of the XC-W ...

Re: 2012 Ktm 350 XC-F

My bergs and huskys have the all xcf-w engine with wide ratio and 42mm throttle body because I like to lug and I like the smooth power. When I have tried others 350 XCFs they are more aggressive and abrupt power... my skills and preference aren't making that fun yet. Might make me faster though... o...

Re: Chain Saw recommendations?

Stihl MS170 can be had on sale for around $200. They are a great saw. I have had mine for 5 years and countless tanks of fuel and never had an issue. +1 There is no substitute for quality. There are bigger saws, but the time you spend building it is a labour of love, so keep the chain sharp and enj...

Re: Travel Trailer Frame Cracks

The Lippert folks added a 2" HSS (Hollow Structural Section) between the spring hangers which prevents the hangers from "wagging" the frame rail flange (and cracking the web). It basically "boxes" the load path and strengthens and stiffens it immensely. A clever solution I thought.

Re: Travel Trailer Frame Cracks

Again, not overly concerned, anything that can crack that easily can't really be structurally critical.... I politely suggest a more conservative approach - these were not designed to last the number of cycles we subject them too... most RVs get used one or two weeks a year. The cracks appear where...
