I have heard similar comments from others who have installed sub tanks. They really do seem to work well when you're looking for plushness on the initial part of the stroke. A friend installed them on his woods converted KX250F, the difference was very noticeable. I don't know what year your YZ is. ...

The 98 RM didn’t have a power jet carb so there should be an electrical connection to your’s. If there is then it must have been swapped out at some point.
